Can a dermoid cyst become cancerous?
A dermoid cyst is made up ovarian germ cells (germ cells are reproductive cells [eg, eggs]) and can contain teeth, hair, or fat. Most dermoid cysts are benign, but rarely, they can be cancerous. Can an ovarian dermoid cyst become cancerous? Ovarian dermoid cysts, or teratomas, are made up of a variety of different cell types. They're a type of ovarian germ cell tumor. Usually these tumors are benign, but occasionally they can be malignant.
